If so, the team at Cornerstone Dental Arts completely feels for you. We treat nervous patients every day, and we know how paralyzing this fear can be. This is why our practice offers sedation dentistry, a collection of techniques that can help you physically and mentally relax while protecting you from discomfort. Often, this approach even allows you to completely sleep through your appointment and wake up with no memory of it afterward! Thanks to sedation dentistry, we can finally take the stress out of visiting the dentist.

ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR SEDATION THERAPY?

  • Experience severe anxiety and fear when faced with dental instruments
  • Put off important dental treatment because of fear
  • Have a sensitive gag reflex
  • Have trouble feeling numb after receiving local anesthetic
  • Cannot rest comfortably in a dentist’s chair due to neck problems, back problems, or other physical limitations

IV SEDATION

Sedation dentistry has worked very safely and perfectly for many patients who used to be apprehensive about going to the dentist. At Cornerstone Dental Arts, you will never be judged or scolded for feeling nervous or afraid, and we are happy to offer a free consultation so that we can discuss the options available and help you or your loved one be on the road to sustained dental health.

At Cornerstone Dental Arts, we are able to perform IV (intravenous) sedation right in the comfort of our Knoxville office. It is a safe, effective, and comfortable way to overcome the most intense dental anxiety and allow you to get excellent dental care you deserve and need.

It can provide almost instantaneous relief from anxiety, and it can enable us to perform a significant number of procedures in a single visit.

IV sedation allows us unprecedented control over relaxation levels, so we can tailor the sedation to your specific needs. Depending on the amount of sedative you receive, you will feel extremely relaxed, drowsy, and you may even fall asleep. Typically, patients can respond to questions and remain conscious, but they do not experience extreme nervousness or discomfort, remembering little about the appointment. Afterward, you must have a responsible adult who can drive you to and from your appointment and spend some time with you until the sedation has worn off completely.

ORAL CONCIOUS SEDATION

If you experience a large amount of dental fear, then oral conscious sedation could be exactly what you need to finally take care of your teeth in peace. With this approach, your doctor will prescribe you medication to take the day of your appointment. You’ll take it about an hour before so that by the time you sit in the dentist’s chair, you’ll be completely sedated. You’ll still be conscious during your appointment, but you’ll likely have little to no memory of it afterward, which is exactly how many patients like it!

NITROUS OXIDE SEDATION

Are you only slightly nervous about visiting the dentist? With nitrous oxide sedation, we can help you gently “take the edge” off of your anxiety with no lasting effects. You’ll simply breathe in an odorless gas through a small nasal mask, and quickly, you’ll feel a warm, soothing sensation blanket your entire body. Once your procedure is over and the mask has been removed, the effects will wear off in a matter of minutes, allowing you to go on about your day normally.

If fear of pain has kept you from visiting the dentist for years, don’t worry, we can help! Sedation dentistry allows even the most nervous patients to have a tranquil dental experience, and you’ll be amazed at what it can do for you. If you’d like to discuss how sedation could help you simply glide through your next appointment, please contact our office today.
