Root Canal Therapy

Root canals have often been used as a measuring stick of unpleasant experiences: “Sitting through that movie was like having a root canal.”

Fortunately, at Cornerstone Dental Arts, we’re able to offer stress-free and painless root canals to all of our patients who are suffering from severe dental pain. When you come to see us, you can always trust that a root canal will be the solution for your discomfort and never the cause.

Your teeth are actually made up of multiple layers. You’re probably familiar with the outermost one, enamel, and below it is a layer of a substance called dentin. Within this is a chamber that contains something called the dental pulp, which consists of the nerve and a multitude of blood vessels. Most of the time, when a person has a cavity, it is limited to just the enamel. However, if it is left untreated for a long time, it can reach this sensitive dental pulp and cause an infection. This often leads to severe dental pain, and in order to relieve it, the best course of treatment will probably involve a root canal.

If we determine that a root canal is the best course of treatment for you, we’ll start by numbing your mouth using local anesthetic. This will ensure that your procedure will be entirely painless, and we promise that you’ll be comfortable the entire time.

Then, your doctor will create a small opening in your tooth, remove the infected tissue, clean and sanitize the area, fill the tooth with a medicated material, and finally restore the tooth using a dental crown.

Most of the time, a root canal can be completed in just one visit, and with our CEREC machine, the crown can often be applied during the same appointment. Thanks to our expertise and gentle touch, we’re sure that your first thought after we’ve completed everything will be, “Wow, that’s it?”

If you’re walking around with an aching, throbbing tooth, don’t let the fear of a root canal stop you from getting treatment. We use root canals every day to provide pain relief, and after you’ve come to see us, we bet that your only regret will be that you didn’t come in sooner.
